Bro. Dr. Walter A. H. Gill (PI, 1957) has published the story of the first seven decades of Pi Omega Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Of Pi Omega’s first 33 Basileis, 18 had a Morgan-Pi Chapter connection and 13 were initiated at Pi. Pi Omega and Pi chapters collaborated on several Achievement Week programs and social events in the 1920’s to the 1950s. The names of ten Omega men grace seven buildings and the Natatorium on Morgan’s campus. Of the ten, eight were active with Pi Omega.

This research is a long-overdue history of one of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s most accomplished chapters. Pi Omega, the first chapter in Maryland, was central in the initial development of the organization. This book carefully documents the activities of Pi Omega and many of its members and appropriate places, both in their proper roles within the overall context of the Fraternity and the nation. It recaptures the lost and neglected history of Pi Omega for future generations.

African American History and Culture

Dr. Walter Gill has created a quilt and the patches of that quilt were made of illustrious stories of Pi Omega Chapter. They include Judge Linwood G. Koger and numerous members of the chapter. This book not only documents the first seven decades of Pi Omega but is a reflection of the quilts that run throughout the Omega psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Yesteryear is a great book! There was so much to learn about Pi Chapter and those who went on to be leaders in Pi Omega. At one time, Pi Omega and Pi Chapters had several programs and social events together from the 1920’s to the 1950’s. The book represents the best of Black history in Baltimore and in Omega.

Yesteryear is a masterful encapsulation of the personal efforts of Pi Omega Chapter and their contributions to the history of Baltimore from 1921 to 1991. Some of America’s most prominent physicians, lawyers, clergy and educators are included in this stellar research.

Dr. Joseph L. Amprey, Jr., (Brother of Dr. Walter G. Amprey, both were initiated at) Pi Chapter, October, 1953, LM #565

Yesteryear is a very enjoyable history of one of Omega’s most accomplished chapters. The book confirms the history of Pi Omega as one of the most impactful organizations in the City of Baltimore. It shares the bond of Omega men; and brings to life their desire of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity to make life better for all people.
